One Spiritual Experience Please

"One Spiritual Experience Please" is an ethnographic essay film set within the spiritual community in Northern Scotland. Created as part of her MSc Visual Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam, the film delves into the complex interplay of spirituality, community, and the ineffable aspects of human experience. Through immersive fieldwork, I sought to understand the personal and communal meanings that residents ascribe to their mystical practices and the environment they cherish. The film captures the fluid and evolving nature of spirituality, using the camera as a tool to reveal dimensions of reality that often elude the naked eye. The narrative of this film is driven by my introspective voice-overs, which guide viewers through the personal motivations, challenges, and reflections on the anthropological debates surrounding religious and spiritual experiences. The film blends archival materials with personal footage of film, images and sound, offering a rich, multimodal exploration of the 'something' that defines the community's spiritual life.
